It depends! It can take time to become a Shopify expert as it is dependent on experience in building Shopify websites.

To be a Shopify expert may mean that you are comfortable in being able to update and maintain the Shopify store for your online business. A Shopify expert can also be a digital expert that has a more intimate and detailed knowledge of Shopify and its development. This kind of expertise is generally developed having experienced different Shopify builds and for different types of business. This kind of experience comes with practice and could take several years.

The answer to this common question is two-fold, setting it up can be easy but you are most likely going to need a Shopify Expert website designer and developer to make it convert customers and turn it into a site you are proud of marketing. From a user-friendly perspective, Shopify is much more straightforward than Woo Commerce. We have list below are the basic steps, that certainly make it sound simple! However at Confetti Design we get customers everyday say they tried and got the bones of the site set up but just couldn’t make it look professional enough to go live.

DIY Shopify Set Up – without the help of a Shopify designer or developer

Step 1: Go to https://www.shopify.com and click on the green “Start Free Trial” button in top right.

Step 2: Fill in the details such as your email address, your password for your Shopify account, and your store name. Note that it might take a while for you to find a store name that is available, so you will have to be very creative in deciding what your store name will be. Click on “Next” afterwards.

Step 3: Shopify will ask you two questions; ‘Are you already selling’ and ‘What is your current revenue’ Choose your answers from the dropdown. There is also a tick box asking if you are setting up the store for a client, leave it unchecked if you are creating a store for your own business. Click on Next.

Step 4: There will be a question on whether you’d like to make a brick-and-mortar store or an online shop. Select the Online Shop option and then click next.

Step 5: The next page will ask to fill in personal information such as first and last name, address (configures currencies and tax rate), and phone number. You will then need to click the “Enter my store” button.

Step 6: The Shopify step by step process afterwards are pretty straightforward. You will be asked to add a product first. You will need to fill in details like title, description, price, and vendor. You can add a few products first to test and then add more later when you’ve completed the set up.

Step 7: Select a theme for your website. There are free themes that you can choose from which look amazing and are responsive as well.

Step 8: In your dashboard, set up your domain which you can also buy from Shopify, or you can use the free one they provided.

Step 9: Activate your payment by clicking on the payments tab on your dashboard. You will also need to choose a plan and put your method of payment on file.

Step 10: Once done setting up the payment, click on the Launch Website button to make your website live.

Assuming you know what keywords you are going to be adding into your Shopify site, we will be covering what is automatic within the Shopify platform, what is a manual job and where you go to add them.

Shopify has some built in SEO Features

Shopify has a built in SEO feature that helps optimize your content, such as adding canonical tags to pages so duplicate posts do not show up on search engines. This is automatically done for you without having to edit any of these settings yourself or use a Shopify expert developer to do it for you!

Page optimizations

Page titles are automatic
Shopify page titles are the default H1 tag for pages created through Shopify—avoid manually adding an H1 tag anywhere else on the page.
In order to make sure your page titles are not cut off in search engine results, keep them under 60 characters. Google consistently displays the first 50-60 characters of most webpages and always include keywords near where you want people see it when they’re browsing (e.g., at beginning). Lastly remember to use more general language instead of writing an essay or complete sentence!

Write compelling page titles and descriptions that are simple, think Grade 8-10 year old
The copy you write for page titles and meta descriptions should clearly describe the content on each individual webpage, include important keywords in an interesting way that will make users want to click through. Make sure your writing is not only informative but also engaging so people read all about it!

Optimise your URLS
Include a keyword in your page URL. For a Shopify store, the title of a page is like the URL. I recommend that you put your target in there, but keep things short and sweet by not having too many words so people can remember it.
